Severe Weather Shelter

When a severe weather storm warning has been issued to the City of Crookston, the City activates Emergency Management staff to monitor the weather with help from the National Weather Service. When a storm system is approaching our community, depending on certain conditions, the Cities outdoor warning sirens may be activated. Upon activation of the Cities warning system for a tornado, straight line winds or severe thunderstorm, any citizens or passer byers in the community may take shelter in the Severe Weather Shelter that is provided by the City of Crookston.  The location of the shelter is located in the basement of City Hall.

-Crookston Fire Department staff will open and staff the shelter and the Crookston Police Department will attempt to notify citizens in high risk areas such as trailer parks and the City camp ground

-Citizens seeking shelter must use the front door on Broadway

-All individuals that enter the shelter are asked to sign in for accountability purposes

-When the City Emergency Management Staff determine that the city is no longer in a threat situation from the severe weather, an all clear announcement will be made

-Individuals at the shelter are asked to sign out upon leaving
