G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education And Training)
“The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.”
“G.R.E.A.T. lessons focus on providing life skills to students to help them avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems. The G.R.E.A.T. Program offers a continuum of components for students and their families.”

Internet Safety
Over the past several years, Crookston Police Department has received an increasing number of reports related to online fraud and theft. Internet users should be wary of transactions requiring electronic money transfers and should avoid sending funds to persons whom they do not know. The majority of these fraud schemes span state and national borders, making it impossible for law enforcement agencies pursue an investigation. Please visit the following sites for more information:

Child internet safety and education is a priority for CPD and Crookston Public Schools. The Crookston Police Department, in cooperation with Independent School District 593, produced an online safety guide for children and parents. Polk County Triad
The Polk County Triad is a joint venture initiated by The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, The Crookston Police Department, The American Association of Retired Persons, and the local Retired and Senior Volunteer Program to reduce criminal victimization of senior citizens. The Triad’s primary mission is to educate seniors about crime and enable them to protect themselves from victimization.
Polk County Triad began in early 1997 and became a recognized non-profit corporation in 1998. The Triad is governed by a board of directors consisting of seniors and representatives of area organizations whose missions coincide with those of the Triad. The Polk County Sheriff and Crookston Chief of Police are considered ex-officio members of the board of directors.
Successful programs and activities initiated by the Polk County Triad and local sponsors include:
File of Life
The “File of Life” program provides a system for posting seniors’ emergency medical information for law enforcement, Fire Rescue, EMS, and other 1st responders in a prominent location within the home.
A Taste of Italy
“A Taste of Italy” is an annual public fundraiser that raises money for the purchase of AED’s (automated external defibrillators) for placement in Crookston Police and Polk County Sheriff’s Office squad cars.

Safe and Sober
Safe and Sober is a federally funded traffic safety program administered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. 2008 participants include The Crookston and East Grand Forks Police Departments. Safe and Sober funds cover overtime wages for officers to work special traffic enforcement shifts focusing on seatbelt usage and impaired driving
