FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2024 Tax Increase
CROOKSTON, [11/20/23] – "Our commitment to fiscal responsibility shines through as we announce a noteworthy decrease in the estimated property tax increase, underscoring our dedication to the financial well-being of our community." Says City Administrator Corky Reynolds.
Residents of the City of Crookston recently received their preliminary tax estimate statements for the 2024 tax year, indicating a potential City tax increase of 29.73% based on the initial levy submitted by the City to Polk County. This estimate, subject to change based on property value fluctuations, was presented on September 25, 2023.
Since that date, the Crookston City Council and City administration have diligently reviewed the proposed 2024 City budget. The result of these efforts is a substantial reduction from the initial projected City tax increase of 29.73%, with the final City tax expected to be significantly lower than the preliminary estimate. The comprehensive review of the City budget has involved a careful distinction between essential needs, such as parks, roads, water systems, and sewer facilities, and potential wants.
The City Council and department heads are committed to maintaining vital City infrastructure while eliminating non-essential expenditures, recognizing the importance of balancing City needs with the financial impact on taxpayers. This ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility will be further discussed during the Truth in Taxation Hearing scheduled for December 11, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the City Hall Council Chambers. Residents can be assured that the City Council and City administration will continue their efforts to minimize any City tax increase, striving to preserve and enhance essential City services for the benefit of the citizens of Crookston.
